Snow Day!

We awoke yesterday morning to about eight inches of fresh snow in our yard. It was dumping when the kids went to bed Tuesday night and they made me promise that if we got enough snow we could go sledding, so that's just what we did.

After a hearty, snow-day breakfast of pumpkin chocolate chip pancakes I began the process of gathering appropriate clothing and dressing the kids. Approximately seven hours later we ventured outside.

Fashionable and warm!

Who needs snow pants?

We met up with our neighbors, The Bertsches, and went sledding in the yard across the street. The kids had a blast! Since I had Dylan in the Baby Bijorn Weston did some sledding with Tricia, but his favorite activity was eating snow. The poor child must have been frozen from the inside out. At one point we looked across the street and saw that Weston, apparently tired of bending over to get the snow, had found the neighbor's Chuck-It (the thing used to play catch with your dog while avoiding touching a tennis ball full of dog spit) and was using it as a spoon. Awesome.

Mmmm... dog slobber.

Sledding with Tricia

Weston and Caiden. Who taught these boys to smile?

Layla had a ball sledding with her friends. She was a trooper, dragging the sled up the hill by herself after every run. Once she got a little off course and sped right into the bushes, which may have resulted in some dramatic crying if everyone there hadn't started laughing at/with her, making her the center of attention without all the tears. She stayed out for about two hours, until the snow had soaked through her jeans, leggings and underwear and running around wasn't keeping her warm. (We were under the impression that it didn't snow in Seattle, so all of our waterproof winter gear is in Salt Lake City.)

Good thing she's years away from her license.

Freestyling

It looks like this will be the last day for many years that we wake up to a winter wonderland. Bonneville has transferred Ryan back to Phoenix, and we will be re-relocating there in the next few months. I would write more but I'm starting to cry...

That's seriously way too crazy about the transfer. TOO MUCH STRESS! Way. Too. Much.

Do you remember sledding at College Hill Park in Wichita--the one time we had enough snow? And I think we have video of that long run at the house in Vermont. Great times!
