SNOW!

The kids and I were absolutely thrilled to have a white Christmas (Ryan, not so much, but I plan the vacations). The first thing they wanted to do when we got to Salt Lake was go outside and play.

Even when Weston was so sick he couldn't sleep, he would stand on the couch looking out the window and say, "Snow (pronounced 'no'), snow, snow". We bundled him up in a puffy snowsuit a la Randy Parker, then propped him up against a stationary object and let him eat snow until he got cold or fell over.

Layla would go out by herself and play for an hour or more, running around, making angels, and eating the snow until her fingers and face were bright red and tingly cold. She even managed to convince Grandpa to pull her around in a saucer and Grandma and Christian to build a snowman with her. Children remind us all to take pleasure in the simple things in life. That's why I keep them around.

I was happy for the chance to wear all of my fabulous boots, sweaters, scarves and jackets that sit sad and lonely in my closet in Phoenix. Each morning I donned my warmest clothing and sat cozily on the couch watching the snow out the window. (ok, half of the mornings I never made it out of my pajamas). Ryan rebelled and wore flip flops and tee shirts the whole vacation.
