Christmas Projects

We were that lame family this year that didn't break out a single box of Christmas decorations from the garage, let alone put up lights or a tree. My excuse: we left on Dec. 19 to spend two weeks in Salt Lake City. But mostly I was just lazy. Sorry kids.

Around the second week in December I started feeling really guilty every time Layla would ask why everyone else had trees and lights and snowflakes and red plants and we didn't. I tried to explain that her tree was at Grandma's house waiting for her, but she looked pretty bummed. This was enough to motivate me to do something, although not nearly enough to make me put forth the effort to adorn our home with the festivities my sweet girl was longing for. So, a compromise: a gingerbread house kit and lots of extra candy for decorating (or whatever).

The only other Christmas project of note this year was handmade cards for Layla's teachers. We painted her hand and printed it upside down to make the tree, then let her use her fingers to dot on the lights. They turned out absolutely adorable. I even wrote a little poem for the inside, which I seem to have deleted from my computer. Oops. I'll have to see if one of them still has their card and can make me a copy. It wasn't Kipling, but it was pretty cute and I'd like to use it again. Cross your fingers.
