My favorite part of every day is getting Weston out of bed in the morning. He greets me with the biggest smile, even if I've been busy and he's been awake in his room for an hour waiting for me. He gets up and runs over with arms outstretched, envelopes me in the warmest hug I can imagine, and says, "
Good morning, Mommy." Then I get a warm, wet kiss and a little giggle and he tells me what he dreamed about the night before (usually dinosaurs, pirates, or Little Einsteins).
On November 3 Weston turned two. I cannot believe my baby boy is growing up so fast. He has turned in to quite the little rascal. I can correct him, scold him, warn him, threaten him, and try to get him to obey seven different ways and he'll keep right on doing what he's doing like I'm not even there. He's not malicious about it and it really doesn't seem like he's trying to disobey; it's almost as if he doesn't understand me. But he does understand. In fact, at the tender age of two, he has practically mastered the English language.
Weston can speak as well as any four year old I've ever met. He is absolutely hilarious
(just ask him). He tells knock-knock jokes and comes up with various creative puns, but what is really funny is the endless running commentary of whatever crosses his mind. It's like the
Bing commercials. Hearing what's on the mind of such a precocious little person can quite literally keep an adult entertained for hours. I love to sit and watch him play when he doesn't know I'm there, and I treasure every conversation I have with him.
He has the kindest heart, and genuinely cares about everyone. When we pick up Layla he always asks, "How was school, Layla?" Today I went to the bathroom, and when I came out he asked, "How was your potty, Mommy?" He's very good at sharing (he'll even take a bite of food out of his mouth and offer it to me on occasion). He tells me he loves me at least five times a day, and randomly offers up hugs and kisses. If he's tired or sad he'll ask, "Mommy, will you take care of me?" He even remembers to thank me for making meals, and telling me when he's finished, "That was deeeeee-licious!"
He loves his sisters, but sometimes shows it in unlikely ways. The other day he was playing Candy Land and wanted to give Dylan a kiss. He climbed up on the couch and before I could get over there he had shoved his game piece in her eye. I am constantly telling him to be gentle, reminding him that she's a baby, to which he frankly replies, "She's not a toy. She's not a dinosaur. She's not a frog. She's a baby." Five seconds later he's trying to "
hi-yah" her with a broom handle that has become a makeshift weapon.
Weston, you keep me on my toes and keep life interesting, to be sure, but I cannot imagine a single day without your smile. I tear up when I think about sending you off to preschool next year. Even when you're being a little pistol, I never doubt for a second that you have a heart of gold. Your personality is so unique and special, and everyone who meets you knows it immediately. You light up my life, my son. Please don't ever change that.
I love you more than words.
Love,
Mom.

I MISSED WESTON'S BIRTHDAY. I am the worst Auntie in the world. But I pretty much cried the whole time I was reading that and I'm ready to come to Seattle immediately. Miss and love all of you. xoxo
So sweet! Happy (late) second birthday Weston! He's darling, and I can't wait to see him in a week!
