We had big plans for Memorial Day weekend. We were going camping! But Mother Nature had other plans.
It started raining on Thursday morning and didn't stop until sometime on Saturday. News from the campground was that it was wet and muddy, not to mention cold (it snowed a half-hour north of there). We decided to postpone our camping trip for a more favorable weekend.
So, we tried to plan another trip, to Prescott or Sedona, but every hotel, motel, inn, and B&B for miles was completely full, so we had to improvise. On Saturday we had our great friends The Fords over for the afternoon. We built a fort for Layla and Rylee in the living room and let them watch the Bee Movie in there, which kept them busy while the adults played a game of Trivial Pursuit before dinner.
We decided to spend Sunday and Monday with just our family. On Sunday, we drove out to Canyon Lake, where we fed the fish and watched the boats, then drove over to Tortilla Flats. There, we had ice cream, hunted for lizards, and Layla "went fishing" in some large rain-water pools. It was a wonderful, relaxing day.
On Monday, we headed way out west to the Wildlife World Zoo. It was about an hour drive, but well worth it. We saw a vast array of animals closer than ever before. Ryan and I both agreed that it was the coolest zoo we'd ever been to, and Layla had so much fun she didn't want to leave after four hours of walking around! She was incredibly well-behaved, and it couldn't have been a better day.
I was pretty bummed that we couldn't go camping, but it turned out to be a wonderful weekend spent with my two favorite people!

Looks like you guys had a wonderful time. All in just a few weeks, Layla's hair has grown and your belly popped out! Fun!
