Shortcuts

Most people who speak the english language use shortcuts in speech on a daily basis. We use contractions, like can't, don't, and wasn't, and use all kinds of slang to sum up what we want to say. We do it without even thinking.

It's very funny to watch Layla, who is learning more and more language each day, pick up on shortcuts in speech and adapt her own. For instance, Curious George books are some of her favorites, and The Man With The Yellow Hat is one of the main characters. His name is rather long, so she calls him "Mellow Hat," as if it's a popularly accepted nickname. Same with Puss in Boots, from Shrek. He is now simply "Poots." Oh, the innocence of little children.
