After fielding many questions ("What is 'raising'?" "What is 'charity'?" "Why are they in the hospital?" "If my bug bites get worse will I have to go to the hospital?" "Is Daddy sick?") she was satisfied with the explanation that Daddy was collecting money from people who live in Phoenix to help the kids at PCH. Then she said, "Wait, I live in Phoenix."
I could see the wheels turning... I told her that I had called in and gave some of our money already, and Daddy was helping with all of the work he was doing.
"But, I live in Phoenix..."
So I said, "Yes, and if you want you can give some of your money to help the children."
"YES! I want to do that! I have money in my piggy bank. Let's go get some to help the children!"
She ran upstairs and we emptied her piggy bank out onto the floor. She set aside all of the bills and many of the coins into one large pile, and left a much smaller pile of coins. I was so pleased when she said that the big pile was for the kids and the smaller one would go back in the bank. She excitedly scooped up the $22.74 and put it in the envelope, then decorated it with her favorite stickers, to help make the kids feel better.
I told her to go to sleep and that I would give the envelope to Daddy to take to the hospital the next day, but she was so excited about helping, that she stayed awake in bed for over an hour and came bounding downstairs, envelope in hand, as soon as he walked in the door.

The next day we listened to quite a bit of radio, and each time they interviewed a child or told their story, Layla would proudly say, "Mom, that is one of the children that I gave my money to!"
We are so proud of our big girl for her eagerness to share and her desire to do good and help others, and so proud of Ryan and the hard work he put into this radiothon, which raised almost $900,000 for PCH in less than two days. I am truly blessed with an amazing family.

That is so great, it gave me goosebumps. You must be a great example to Layla for her to want to give all that money to them. That is SO sweet.
I'm not gonna lie, I cried a little bit when I read that.
P.S. Did Ryan lose some weight? (DON'T tell him I said that)
That is so sweet of her! what a good little girl and good example you are to her.
That's so sweet! Way to go! You are teaching her well!
Thanks! I like the bangs, too. THey're really easy to do, and they make it look like I did my hair, even though I usually just have it in a pony tail!
Anyway, we will be there this Saturday! And well stay until probably Oct 7th. So does that mean you'll be out of town, b/c it seems like you're always out of town when we come! And I know St George is the 3rd...
