For Weston's first birthday we decided to celebrate a few days early and clump his party in with all the other Halloween weekend hoopla. We had a breakfast party and all of the kids wore costumes. It was a huge success and everyone was cleared out by 11, giving us time to clean up and regroup before trick or treating festivities commenced.
For breakfast we had baked french toast, breakfast casserole, fruit and yogurt. We had a coloring table, where kids could color in Halloween characters and put them up in a haunted house, and we had a pinata filled with treats and toys that the kids got to bust open outside on the playground.
Of course, the cupcakes were the highlight for Weston and Layla.
Weston was more interested in opening gifts than I would have thought. We are pleased to report that our son can now play with trucks, trains, helicopters and construction equipment instead of Barbies and My Little Ponies.
The best gift of all was having Pops fly in for the party! The kids (and parents) were so excited to spend some time with him. Another one of the favorites was an inflatable bouncy horse named Rody (thanks Nana and Pops!). We've had to explain to Layla about 17 times that Rody belongs to Weston but he is happy to share, but after about three minutes of playing with him she once again claims ownership.
Aside from a very small episode right when guests were arriving there were no tears, and everyone had a great time. Thanks to all of our friends and family for helping us celebrate our little man turning one!
